It is the accelerator of the food sector of Galicia, promoted by Xunta de Galicia and boosted by Clúster Alimentario de Galicia and leading companies in the food industry. It seeks to attract and promote innovative entrepreneurship projects, both from national and international origins, to face the challenges of the sector in a globalized world.
BFFood aims to implement support programs for entrepreneurship and consolidation of projects in the food sector and their transformation into innovative, viable and scalable companies.
BFFood is focused on solving the challenges posed by companies, for which launches a public call whose objective is to find, identify and select projects that are aligned with the resolution of the challenges and support them to reach the market with greater guarantees success.
BFFood has two specific programs to support the participating projects: acceleration and consolidation. The programs are designed to boost projects according to their degree of development, from the initial idea with the acceleration program, to the consolidation of sales with the consolidation program.
The BFFood programs include mentoring, training, coaching, networking activities and access to a catalog of infrastructures, means and technical services that allow the projects to advance in the development of the entrepreneurial initiative. It should be noted that each of the projects has a specific mentor belonging to a leading company in the food sector to guide and facilitate its development in the ecosystem. Likewise, the projects will have access to specific financing in the form of non-refundable grants and participative loans, to encourage their take-off and consolidation.
Comprehensive support program specialized in the food sector of 9 months duration, focused on entrepeneurial initiatives in their initial phase which are developing or have developed a minimum viable product and have outlined a business model, aligned with any of the challenges that the food sector seeks to solve through BFF.
Comprehensive support program specialized in the food sector of 12 months duration, focused on (already) stablished companies with a defined product of service and first sales (already) made, aligned with any of the challenges that the food sector seeks to solve through BFF.
Access to the value chain of the Galician food sector facilitating the attainment of first orders. Given the vertical nature of the accelerator, the participation of leading companies in the sector and the focus of the participating projects in solving the challenges posed by the companies, there are great possibilities to obtain the first sales of the projects among the participating agents in BFFood.
Each of the projects will have a specific mentor belonging to one of the BFFood leading companies, with a career and experience in the specific field of the project, who will be responsible for guiding them, facilitating the alignment of the value proposition of the project with the resolution of the challenge.
The participants are creditors of a general training program and specific training adapted to their needs that allows them to acquire the necessary knowledge to launch and consolidate their business project, business development tools and specific knowledge of the food sector.
The projects may be installed in any of the facilities made available by the collaborating entities of BFFood in different cities of Galicia. Likewise, the participating projects will have a work space with meeting rooms and a coworking area in Santiago de Compostela, allowing contact among the different projects located in that space.
The participating projects will have access to a catalog of infrastructures, means and technical services that will facilitate and accelerate the development of the projects, made available to the entrepreneurs by companies as well as BFFood collaborating entities.
Through its two modalities of support, acceleration and consolidation, BFFood has the capacity to cover the different stages of evolution of any entrepreneurial project, from the earliest phases, from ideation, to the most mature, about consolidating a business model that produces recurring sales.
The projects will have the following economic support through GAIN and XESGALICIA:
GAIN: amount of € 25,000.00 per project in the acceleration program.
XESGALICIA: for each one of the companies selected in the acceleration phase, financing through a participative loan that could entail a capitalization option of up to a maximum of 50,000 euros. In the case of consolidation projects, financing through a participative loan that could involve a capitalization option of up to € 250,000.
Among the activities foreseen by BFFood is to favor networking between the projects and institutions, companies and other entities of the food sector, fostering the creation of bridges and communication channels that increase the visibility of entrepreneurial initiatives in the sector's ecosystem.
Digitization and automation
Fluctuations of the food sector demand are a critical element of the value chain, which implies that there are situations of overproduction and excess of stock or, on the other hand, of supply shortages.
Thus, information systems that can improve the capacity of companies to predict the behaviour of demand and, therefore, plan and adapt to the needs of the client, would be of great value to the food sector. Specifically, it is here here to develop applications based on modeling, learning and data mining techniques that allow the construction of predictive intelligence models of the demand of final product.
Digitization and automation
Quality Management Systems (QMS) of the food industry handle great quantities of data. The challenge lies on their digitization and, to a certain extent, their automation, so that their dependence on paper can be reduced or even eliminated.
A paperless QMS can assume that this information can be generated, processed, archived and consulted, both by the companies themselves and by the agents involved in the whole food value chain, in a more efficient, safe and reliable way.
Quality and food safety
The food industry looks for methods and technologies for objective analysis of the organoleptic conditions of food products, whether raw materials or processed.
These objective analysis solutions would contribute to generating standardized criteria that would facilitate and speed up communication between the different agents of the production chain and, especially, between suppliers and customers.
Sustainability and packaging
The sector shows great interest in finding new packaging formats that have one or more of the following characteristics:
It is considered of interest for this challenge to implement ICT solutions that accompany the value propositions of the food sector and involve new features of interest both for customers and for any agent in the food value chain and to facilitate communication in both directions.
Development of new products
Regarding frozen and refrigerated foods, the industry, is looking for crispy coverings, liquid or not, which can be applied to products, particularly those from fisheries, that lead to healthy, high-quality pre-cooked meals.
The solutions can be based on the use of new ingredients, manufacturing technologies or even packaging but they must ensure that the final product, once frozen, can be cooked in a microwave oven without prior defrosting and give rise to a crispy texture in tasting.
Development of new products
It is considered interesting to develop new products or new applications, through which it is possible to channel supply and demand imbalances as well as food by-products, transforming them into innovative and healthy proposals for the industry and/or the final consumer.
The generation of surpluses in raw materials and by-products, especially in relation to the dairy, wine and meat industries, is a sectoral opportunity to innovate in new products and new uses of the raw materials produced in Galicia.
Traceability and logistics
This challenge seeks to optimize cold chain and management of pre-shipments in a food factory.
It seeks to provide an improved solution in the management of line ends, whether dry, refrigerated or frozen using an intelligent label that collects all the information related to the product..
The solution should make it possible to optimize the management systemfor mobile storage shelves, in addition to management monitoring in shape of buffer, to prepare the goods subject to pre-shipment.
Food sector innovation
An open challenge, is formulated, in which fits any project that may be applicable to the food sector and that involves the introduction of some type of innovation or improvement.
Any initiative / project that involves an innovation, in a broad sense (product, process, commercialization, etc.), is considered of interest for the food sector of Galicia, from the origin and treatment of the raw material through fifth-range products until closing the food circle, looking for the circularity of the flow of products and services used in the different phases of the main value chain as well as the side links.
The BFFood accelerator offers all the necessary services and infrastructures to facilitate the success of the participating projects, whether they are in early development phases, or if they have already obtained a pilot or a first sale.
The use of these infrastructures and means by the participating projects is financed in large part by IGAPE.
